Functional and Chemical Proteins

Summary:

Homepage SMP Protein

The Systematic-Methodological Platform (SMP) Protein identifies and analyses human proteins. The focused research work during NGFN-2 enables us to get new insight into cellular processes, identify and validate novel drug targets and therapeutic strategies and ultimately provide the essential basis to understand disease mechanisms.

In order to reach this goal, all groups of the SMP Protein platform closely interact with other SMPs, Disease-oriented Genome Networks and Explorative Projects in an interdisciplinary manner to systematically analyze a set of about 1.000 proteins, highly relevant for regulatory and functional networks e.g. proteins involved signaling pathways, gene regulation, protein degradation, both in normal and pathological, disease conditions.

In SMP-Protein platform, the protein analysis includes both target identification and a verification pipeline. The investigation pipeline ranges from cloning, protein expression, structural and biochemical analysis, to protein-DNA, protein-protein, and protein-drug interactions. Data analysis, integration and modeling ensures a proper storage, accessibility and evaluation of results, providing a basis for identification of new components of signaling cascades and nderlying disease mechanisms.
