Quality Management "Protein Analysis"
The activities of this working group are focussing on data handling. There are five research groups that contribute data from different protein analysis experiments. Using standard data formats will facilitate data transfer and data comparison among the research institutions involved in protein analysis.
For rapid data exchange internal web-sites at the Protein Structure Factory and the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics (MPIMG) were created and linked to the official SMP Protein website. The complete information content is concentrated on TWIKI pages and can be updated by NGFN scientists. All generated raw data are stored in XML-format. Informations concerning macromolecular structures derived from X-ray cristallography are represented in mmCIF. A secure Data transfer is ensured by using sFTP and sHTTP. Using Pedro editors and small Java appletts every user is able to edit existing data and contribute data to the entire project. Thus, the actual data is highly integrated and even complex projects can easly be monitored and maintained. The internal target list and public databanks are frequently synchronized to update the actual status of our targets. Furthermore we developed a tool to check protein data-bases frequently for new structures of targets which are also used as targets in the SMP Protein.
