1.4. Data Integration.

Responsible: Dr. Reinfried Götz, BioMAX, Munich.

Background:

As the name suggests, the goal of the subproject “Data Integration” is to establish a framework for accessing heterogeneous/distributed databases and data repositories in a homogeneous environment. We will offer the commercial BioRS Integration and Retrieval System as a general-purpose platform for the NGFN. BioRS is an industry-standard that not only permits the local administration of data, but is also an enabling integration tool that is used to connect diverse repositories and databases. This will allow us to build a comprehensive portal for the NGFN without the need for developing a complex solution from scratch. Beyond its available functionality, project specific requirements as defined by the partners will be realized in close collaboration with Biomax.

Planned Work:

Our work within the NGFN will follow a dynamic model for data integration and consists of the following components:

  • Installation of a core data integration platform based on the BioRS system to be adopted for the specific needs of the NGFN (base system development).
  • Site installations tailored to the needs of the individual centers, SMPs, or clinical networks.
  • Installation, maintenance support, training as well as customization support, depending on demand expressed by specific centers, SMPs, or clinical networks.
  • Establishment of an NGFN-integrated portal comprising the federated central access data repository.
