3.3. Methodological Quality and Consulting.

Responsible: Prof. Ulrich Mansmann, IBE, Munich.

Background:

In addition to providing services tailored to project specific needs, this subproject offers a well-tuned methodological training program with the goal of bringing projects to publication standard. To achieve our goal we intend to formulate guidelines for good methodological and statistical practice, while organising workshops on the design, analysis, and interpretation of array studies/experiments. The target group are people involved in planning projects, analysing data, and interpreting results: clinicians, biologists, bioinformaticians, and technicians.

Planned work:

The work is composed of three main areas:

  1. Methodological guidelines (Dr. U. Mansmann) - Methodological needs will be assessed by reviewing the present literature. Guidelines and strategies will be derived which help to improve the design, analysis, documentation, and interpretation of microarray to allow an objective view on its implication.
  2. Advanced workshops (Dr. U. Mansmann) – To provide support at all stages of profiling projects, we offer advanced workshops on good practice in designing, analysing, and interpreting microarray experiments.
  3. Rapid response unit Data Management and Data Analysis (Dr. R. Eils) - Continuing support has to be provided with respect to data management activities for clinical networks. This requires support of database installation, help in administration, programming interfaces, and extension of the data model.
