Networking, Training and More

Introduction
RiNA GmbH
RiNA was founded in 1998 as the core facility of the Berlin based RNA Network. The Network provides ongoing support and funding for the development of RNA technologies in academics and industry. RiNA GmbH is in charge of the project management, networking (seminars, workshops, public relations, etc.) and the commercialisation of the deliverables for about 15 research projects funded in the RNA Network.
Based on many years of experience in project management RiNA will provide a platform for networking within NGFN-2 and the outside world.

RiNA’s project in NGFN-2

The goal of the project in the SMP RNAi is to establish active networking capabilities, to use synergisms efficiently and facilitate exchange of information and knowledge in the field of RNAi in this SMP and with other NGFN-2 SMPs / Diseaseoriented Genome Networks / Explorative Projects as well as with established networks in this scientific field. Hands on training programs to help NGFN-2 participants to start and perform RNAi successfully will be organized. Workshops, meetings and an internet platform to provide a discussion forum on the limitations of RNAi and possible solutions will be set up.

Project Status
Survey
In order to figure out the requirements of the NGFN-2 participants concerning RNAi work and putative contributions to planed activities, a survey was carried out. Two different questionnaires have been set up and sent to all NGFN-2 participants and the sub-project leaders in the SPMRNAi, respectively. In the feedback a special interest in public meetings and lab courses was expressed and putative scientific contributors could be identified.

NGFN RNAi Meeting
As a first scientific meeting RiNA / SMP-RNAi present “RNA interference Technologies” on September 21st in Berlin. The event is integrated in the GBM annual fall Meeting (18.9 – 21.9.2005) and will provide an insight into the current development in the field of RNAi. Outstanding speakers will present recent results and discuss with the attendees their work. Admission is free of charge for all NGFN-2 participants.

Outlook
SMP RNAi Internet platform
An internet platform has been set up and will be launched in 2005. The homepage presents a constantly updated overview on the SMP-RNAi activities to the public. A forum will serve for scientific exchange within NGFN-2 and the scientific community. In a password protected area, SMPRNAi members will organize their collaboration within the SMP-RNAi.
