GEM-Kiel: Genetic epidemiological support

As a member of the GEM platform in NGF1, the GEM Kiel has been established to provide local clinical collaborators in KG “Inflammation and Environment” with support in terms of management, administration and analysis of genetic epidemiological data, and to engage in the development and implementation of new statistical methods for the analysis of such data. Work at GEM Kiel has started in May 2002. Since then, new models for genetic epidemiological data have been explored and developed by GEM Kiel in cooperation with, and on the basis of existing implementations at, the local NGFN genotyping facility (Hampe, Schreiber). The successful transfer of knowledge between GEM Kiel and its local KG partners almost paradigmatically reflects the synergistic effects that are expected to arise from the establishment of the GEM platform in NGFN1. The purpose of the present project is to allow GEM Kiel to continue its successful support of local KG partners in NGFN2.
